On 16 July 2013, the Consortium for Conservation of Coastal and Marine Ecosystems in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO-C) and Western Indian Ocean Coastal Challenge (WIO-CC) formalized their relationship through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU defines the terms of a technical collaboration between WIO-C
and WIO-CC in the context of promoting collective actions at national and regional levels on climate change adaptation, promoting resilient ecosystems, sustainable livelihoods, and human security success for the Western Indian Ocean region.
The signing ceremony was held during the cocktail organized for the participants to the Western Indian Ocean Coastal Challenge Third Technical Meeting held in the Seychelles from 15-16 July 2013. The MOU was signed by the Minister of Environment and Energy, Prof Rolph Payet and Dr Christopher Holmes of WCS-Madagascar, who signed on behalf of the President of WIO-C, Mr Ali Kaka.
The Africa Biodiversity Collaborative Group (ABCG) comprises the following seven international conservation NGOs: African Wildlife Foundation; Conservation International; The Jane Goodall Institute; The Nature Conservancy; Wildlife Conservation Society; World Resources Institute and World Wildlife Fund – US.
This USA-based Group provides technical and financial support to the WIO-C.
